Notice concerning「Use of the Remote Oral Examination Using Video-Technology System」


The Intellectual Property Tribunal is promoting an extension of the use of the Remote Oral Examination using Video-Technology System, which began being implemented last year, as the satisfaction of users regarding the use of this system between Seoul and Daejeon is high.

Accordingly, the Intellectual Property Tribunal is also positively considering accepting Remote Oral Examination using Video-Technology requests not only for cases related to patents and utility models, but also for trademarks as well as for technologies, briefing sessions for trademarks and designs, interviews with examiners, etc., so it is highly recommended for proxy agents to actively apply for oral examination using video-technology, video-technology briefing sessions, etc.

Moreover, a large court that can accommodate 40 to 50 people is being constructed (completion targeted in April, 2016) that will be utilized for trial-united cases, 5-person panel of judges trial cases, and observing oral examinations, visits, etc.

<How to use the Remote Oral Examination using Video-Technology System>

Go to the search portal site 「Patent-ro (www.patent.go.kr)」→ select “oral examination” on the ‘Trial application form*’, ‘Application form for opening technology, trademark or design briefing session**’ or ‘Interview application form*’ and apply by mail, in person or online.

* At「Patent-ro」① Fill out the applicable form(s) after downloading ‘Trial application form’, ‘Application form for opening technology, trademark or design briefing session’ or ‘Interview application form’ from the ‘Downloading civil affairs formula’ section on the right side of the screen or ② Install ‘Form organizer SW’ and fill out a ‘Trial application form’.

Describe the ‘Purpose of requesting Remote Oral Examination using Video-Technology System’ in the ‘Cause for Application’ column and submit the form.

Persons directly involved on either one-side or both sides can apply.
